Not only is this a wonderful coffee, but every bean has a great story to match. Grown on the South Western corner of the Dominican Republic at an altitude of 1700 meters, this is a prime coffee growing region. But more then growing conditions is the love and care that goes into the cultivating of the coffee as well as preservation of the land and support of the local community. The farm is a family owned farm by the family of Juan Francisco and his wife Debbie; two pastors in Providence Rhode Island. Juan and Debbie have deep roots in supporting their local community and sustainability. Each bean is hand picked both by Haitian farm workers and local members of the community. This provides work and hope. Juan and Debbie have worked hard to restore their family farm to be a source pride and livelihood for those that live nearby. Not only does this farm help the local economy, but it is a sanctuary for the La Cottorra Parrot. This is an endangered bird that can find safety in the coffee plantation. The coffee itself is naturally organic and shade grown. It roasted to a Vienna roast which brings out deep tones of chocolate with undertones of citrus. This is truly a unique and wonderful coffee. This is a direct trade coffee. Similar to fair trade coffee but we work directly with the farmer to ensure they receive a fair price.
